If you are using vinyl decking in a high traffic area or have a deck where scuffing of shoes or abrasions from furniture is a concern, we suggest you choose designs with less ink or contrast to minimize appearance problems. Can you use vinyl flooring outdoors?
Yes, you can buy waterproof PVC vinyl flooring that is specifically designed for installation on sundecks, balconies, porches, patios, roof decks, and practically any outdoor walkable living area. Waterproof vinyl membranes are engineered to withstand the harshest of weather conditions, from scorching summer heat to sub-zero winter conditions.
What is better vinyl or PVC?
PVC stands for Polyvinyl Chloride. While PVC is used for interior vinyl flooring, there are some major differences. Indoor vinyl flooring is moderately waterproof, but it can only be used in a temperature-and UV controlled environments. Waterproof outdoor PVC vinyl flooring is engineered to be incredibly durable. It will expand and contract following the movement of the structure but won’t crack like wood and other deck coverings and can be used to waterproof and protect many outdoor surfaces.
Can I waterproof plywood?
There are many roll-on epoxy and rubber-based waterproof deck coating products available on the market that can be used to waterproof plywood on sundecks, balconies, patios, etc. However, waterproof PVC vinyl membranes are more durable, last longer, are easier to care for, and are available in a wider variety of beautiful colors and patterns.
Can outdoor vinyl flooring be installed over concrete?
Yes, waterproof vinyl decking products can be installed over above-grade concrete surfaces such as pool surrounds, walkways, roof tops, and common areas. The concrete surface must be smooth and clean, and completely free of cracks.
Can you power wash vinyl decking?
Pressure washing equipment can severely damage vinyl deck membranes if not used with due caution. If a pressure washer is used, please keep the following items in mind:
• Do not use any pressure washer tip with less than a 30° arc.
• Do not use a rotating tip apparatus.
• Do not exceed a max PSI of 1000
• Use extreme caution around all trims, railings and caulking.
